Nuerburgring – Touring Classic 2017

Legendary racers of DTM, ITC and STW traveled to the Eifel for the second run of the Classics 2017 touring car. On the occasion of the 90th birthday of the Nürburgring, the fans were again offered spectacular racing as in the best times.

The second round of the racing series for ex-touring cars from ITC, DTM and the STW at the Nürburgring remained exciting until the last lap. Just before the end, Jörg Hatscher overtook team-mate Thorsten Stadler in his 1996 Mercedes-Benz C-Class in the 1994 class-1 race.

Roland Asch has to give up
Hatscher, who lost ten meters in front of the finish line at Aarhus (DK)( last race), was able to celebrate his first overall victory in the still young racing series in the Eifel. Ex-Mercedes factory pilot Roland Asch kept the third place for long time. but during the last lap the 66-year-old German parked his Mercedes 190E Evo 2 from the 1991 season next to the track. “The engine only ran on three cylinders and I did not want to risk any damage”. The approximately 350-hp strong DTM car from the collection of Mercedes Classic is still equipped with the original engine. After Ash’s failure – Richard Weber with BMW M3 secured his the third place on podium.

Hydraulic failure at Rupp
Stephan Rupp, the fastest trainer of his career, retired with a hydraulic issue with his ITC-Alfa Romeo 155 TI V6. He had been in the lead until five laps before the end.
